The Learning Center (TLC) General Fund

Donations to TLC will help purchase books, developmentally appropriate toys and materials for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, school age children, and children with special needs. Funds may also be used to continue and expand SNCS playgroups.

Children’s Community Chest Fund

When you donate to The Children’s Community Chest 100% of your donation goes directly to the families. This program offers discretionary funds to families with an urgent need when there are no other community resources in Nevada and Sierra Counties available. Awarded funds can range from $50.00 to $300.00 and we strive for same day turnaround, if possible.

A need may relate to health, transportation, enrichment, or items that directly benefit the physical or emotional needs of the child. In addition, the Fund may support a child’s participation in an activity such as sports or dance that builds character and self-esteem.

“I want to thank you and SNCS for the funding to have our car repaired! The auto repair shop did an amazing job and we are safely back on the road. SNCS has been a great support and I feel so blessed to have you working with our family as I care for my 3 grandsons”
Always Grateful!

Services and Goods (“in-kind” Donations)

Local experts/professionals may make an “in-kind” donation to the organization in the form of a service. Examples include:

  • Donating time to teach an Agency-sponsored class (parenting, life skills, finances, nutrition, etc.)
  • Providing professional services to clients in need (health-related, legal, skill development, etc.)

From time to time, SNCS has a specific need for items to support its programs and clientele.
If you are interested in making an “in-kind” donation or monetary contribution, please contact us (530) 272-8866.

Sierra Nevada Children’s Services has a variety of volunteer opportunities for those who wish to be a part of our team—whether for one day or a longer term commitment. We are grateful for our Volunteers. They provide much-needed support in achieving the agency’s goals to help empower local families.

Whatever your motivation and availability, SNCS welcomes the opportunity to work with good people who want to contribute their free time and skills to good causes.

One-Time Opportunities

EVENTS (examples)
Day of the Young Child: Fun community event designed for young children and their families. Held yearly in mid-May during the national “Week of the Young Child” at Sierra College, Nevada County Campus. Public and private schools, family child care homes, non-profits, and child-centered professions present resources and “hands-on” activities for young children. Volunteers may be needed to distribute surveys or flyers, answer questions about the agency, host a SNCS booth, etc.

PROJECTS (examples)
Clerical: Help with big “mailings”, photocopying, putting together manuals, newsletters, etc.

On-Going Opportunities

Administrative: Help with maintenance of files and other records. Provide clerical and organizational support to staff for regularly scheduled meetings and classes.

General Upkeep: Help maintain our lending library of toys and books. Wash and sanitize toys. Restock and update parent brochures, keeping informational handout areas organized.

Committees: Interested in making a more demanding – yet rewarding – commitment to the Agency? Consider volunteering as a community member on one of our Committees.

We are continually looking for creative ways to expand our Volunteer Program. New opportunities will become available throughout the year. Let us know if you want us to update you!

If you have a special skill or talent that you feel would contribute in a unique way, please let us know. We welcome the opportunity to brainstorm new, creative opportunities to further mutual goals.
